Keypoints of the PDP Governors’ Forum Communique
1. No Coalition or Merger:
PDP will not join any political merger but remains open to welcoming individuals or groups interested in joining the party ahead of 2027.
2. National Secretary Position:
The Forum maintains its earlier stance and recommends the Deputy National Secretary to act pending the appointment of a substantive Secretary from the South East.
3. State of Emergency Concern:
PDP Governors plan to approach the Supreme Court for clarity on the constitutional process for declaring a state of emergency. They expressed strong solidarity with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
4. Worsening Insecurity:
The Forum condemned recent attacks, particularly in Plateau State, and called for a bottom-up security strategy empowering sub-national units.
5. NEC Meeting & Party Convention:
PDP to hold a NEC meeting on May 27, 2025, and its National Convention on August 28–30, 2025, in Kano.
6. Committee Appointments:
Zoning Committee: Gov. Douye Diri (Chair), Gov. Dauda Lawal (Vice Chair), Gov. Caleb Mutfwang (Secretary).
- Convention Committee: Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri (Chair), Gov. Ademola Adeleke (Vice Chair), Gov. Peter Mbah (Secretary).
7. Appreciation to Host:
Gratitude was extended to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State for hosting the meeting.
