ASUU President Raises Alarm Over Rise In First-Class Graduates From Private Universities

The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, has criticised the rising number of first-class degrees awarded by private universities in Nigeria, describing it as a troubling trend.

Speaking at an event held on DELSU campus, Abraka, Delta State, Osodeke warned that public universities might be tempted to adopt similar practices, potentially compromising academic integrity without proper regulation.

He also lamented the decline in foundational education quality, blaming primary and secondary schools for producing students with top grades but insufficient knowledge.
