The Lagos State Police Command has rescued a 25-year-old man (name withheld) who was abducted on Tuesday in the Oke Moro, Ishashi area of the state.
It was learnt on Wednesday that three suspects, identified as Edem Chucks, Oluwatobi Adeniji, and Emmanuel Ebere, were arrested by officers of the Ishashi Police Division in connection with the crime.
Residents who witnessed the incident were said to have alerted operatives of the division who stormed the scene to rescue the victim and arrest the suspects.
The state command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Wednesday, stating that the victim was allegedly abducted around noon by suspected hoodlums.
He noted that the preliminary investigation showed that the victim was repeatedly beaten by the suspects.
He said, “The Ishashi Police Division received a distress call from a concerned citizen on August 27, 2024, at about noon that some hoodlums had kidnapped someone at Oke Moro.
“A team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer immediately raced to the scene where a 25-year-old male victim was refused and the three suspects were arrested.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects, after beating the victims, paid N2m in ransom, which was paid into two different accounts by the victim’s mother.”
Hundeyin revealed that the suspects had also transferred an additional N1m from the victim’s account via a mobile transfer and that investigations were ongoing to capture other fleeing members of the group.
This marks the second kidnap incident in less than a week in Lagos.
