The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated a thorough investigation into a significant incident involving a Challenger 601-3R aircraft, bearing Nationality and Registration Marks N580KR and operated by Mattini Air. The incident occurred at approximately 10:55 am (Local Time) on January 26, 2024, during the aircraft’s final approach to landing Runway 22 at Ibadan Airport.
Mrs. Bimbo Olawunmi Oladeji, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NSIB, confirmed that the aircraft, carrying 12 passengers and three crew members en-route from Abuja to Ibadan, overshot the runway. Thankfully, there were no fatalities, as all passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the aircraft, she added.
In response to the incident, NSIB has promptly deployed a dedicated Go Team to conduct a comprehensive investigation. Mrs. Oladeji, on behalf of NSIB, has reached out to the public, urging assistance in the form of video clips, relevant evidence, or any information that members of the public may possess related to the serious incident. This collaborative approach aims to gather valuable insights that can aid in determining the cause of the incident.
While the investigation is ongoing, NSIB emphasizes the importance of respecting the privacy of those involved and discourages making assumptions about the incident’s cause until the formal report is released.
The Bureau assures the public that the preliminary report will be made available as soon as possible, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the incident and any contributing factors.
