The Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Enema Paul, on Thursday, tendered his resignation, citing ill health.
Paul tendered his resignation letter on the floor of the House during Thursday’s plenary.
He said he had been battling an undisclosed ailment since 2011, adding that despite going abroad for treatment he had yet to get well.
“I feel weaker daily and concluded that I should go look for healing. The hospital abroad has requested that I return for treatment,” the lawmaker told his colleagues.
He said he would be away abroad for one year receiving treatment.
Paul thanked the House and Governor Yahaya Bello for their love, support and prayers.
The House, presided by the Speaker, Aliyu Yusuf, accepted his resignation, following which the Clerk, Mr Chogudo Ahmed, sought nominations for another Deputy Speaker.
The lawmaker representing Ajaokuta State Constituency, Abu Jibrin, nominated the lawmaker representing Ibaji State Constituency, Ojoma Nwuchiola, and the nomination was seconded by the lawmaker for Kabba/Bunu State Constituency, Seyi Bello.
On his emergence as the new Deputy Speaker, Nwochiola thanked his colleagues and the governor and called for more unity and cooperation in the Assembly.
