Gunmen on Wednesday killed a yet-to-be-identified policeman attached to a new generation bank around Cassette bus stop, Coker Aguda, in the Surulere area of Lagos State.
The incident which happened in the afternoon forced businesses in the area to close early to ensure the safety of lives and property.
According to a source, the policeman was leaving the bank located on Enitan Street in the area when the gunmen shot him in the neck at close range.
He was confirmed dead at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he was taken to after he had first been taken to the Randle General Hospital.
CKN News learnt that the gunmen, whose motive was yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, made away with his pistol.
No official statement had been made on the incident by authorities in the Coker Aguda LCDA.
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the attack, adding that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Hundeyin said, “He was guarding a bank but the incident didn’t happen at the bank; he had left and was going somewhere inside a tricycle.
“He actually hired the tricycle and was the only passenger. He was attacked, shot and his service pistol taken away. It happened in the afternoon around 3pm. He later died in the night. Nobody has been arrested but efforts are on to that end.”
