The Department of State Services has debunked online posts that three lawmakers in the Gombe house of assembly were arrested.
It was learnt the lawmakers were invited following indications that they were plotting the impeachment of the Speaker, Abubakar Luggerewo, who took over from Sadiq Kurba after he was impeached.
A source who pleaded anonymity said it may not be unconnected with the suspected rift between the governor Muhammadu Yahaya and his erstwhile political benefactor Danjuma Goje.
The source noted that the current speaker is said to be overly loyal to the executive, adding that the members do not have proceeds from the relationship between the executive and legislature.
When contacted, the Information Officer Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Umar, stated that he could not confirm the authenticity of the news.
He added that he had seen the post on social media while promising to contact our correspondent.
“I saw it on the Facebook on my way to the office, but I don’t know how true. But I’m not sure about it authenticity, maybe when I get to the office I will get one or two things. As far as I’m concerned everything is going normal,” he said.
Debunking the arrest, State Director Security Services Abdullahi Adams described the viral message as untrue, noting that the service has no reason to arrest any lawmaker.
Adams said, “No, not at all. It is false, no body invited anybody. We have no reason to invite and there was nothing like that. There was no criminal issue or reason, honestly there is nothing like that.”
