A foremost Lawyer and Journalist Richard Akinnola has admonished Yorubas not to continue washing their dirty linens outside by abusing former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
This was his post on his social media handle titled YOURUBA RONU
"YORUBA RONU
By Richard Akinnola II
I have noticed a series of acerbic and vitriolic insults on Obasanjo by some Yorubas over his criticisms of PMB. Some of the insults were also extended to Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a 90 year-old man. Except you don't want to get old, it is an invidious conduct for a Yoruba man to abuse or insult old people, even if you disagree with them. No properly brought up Yoruba person would degenerate to that despicable level.
I have NEVER been a fan of OBJ. And often times, l disagree with his opinions but they are his opinions, no matter how mischievous, even if they are. That is the essence of democracy.
Two old northerners, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai and Dr Junaid Mohammed are perhaps the most trenchant northern bashers of PMB. But how many times have you seen northerners insulting them? Even when they disagree with them, it doesn't degenerate to the level many supposed Omoluabis do to OBJ and pa Adebanjo. Please, feel free to disagree with them but not to the level of denigrating them. When you destroy your own out of political partisanship, l am sorry for you.
YORUBA RONU."
YORUBA RONU (Part 2)
Yesterday, l posted on the above topic in respect of the deluge of insults on Obasanjo and pa Adebanjo, over their utterances and political positions which their traducers don't support, and the need for Yorubas to stop denigrating the old men.
Some of my respondents justified the insults by saying that old men are supposed to comport themselves properly and if they don't, they should be ready to be disgraced. Deep sigh.
This is what prompted this part 2 and l am going to go Biblical.
In Genesis 9, we read about how Noah got drunk and his nakedness exposed while sleeping. In that inebriated state, one of his sons, Ham saw him naked and went to call his two other brothers to come witness the "free show" of their father's nakedness. But those two refused to be part of such perfidy. Rather, they turned their faces away, got a cloth to cover their father's nakedness. When he woke up, Noah cursed Ham's descendants. Was it right for Noah to get drunk to the extent of going naked? No. But the reaction of his children had its consequences.
What l am trying to bring out here is that, even when such old men are "misjiving" in your own estimation, you can disagree with them but it is irresponsible for anyone to insult 80 and 90 year olds just because of politics? It speaks volume about your character. You don't insult your own biological father because you disagree with him. No omoluabi does that. You are sowing a seed and you would reap in future.
Again, l admonish, YORUBA RONU.
