Gang Raped Female Student Dies In Taraba State

A 300-level student of College of Nursing and Midwifery  Jalingo, Mercy Victor, on Tuesday died of injuries she sustained after she was gang-raped by suspected hoodlums on Sunday.

The Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP David Missal, confirmed the development to our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday.

Missal said the matter was reported to the police on Tuesday and was referred to the GRA Police Station in Jalingo for investigation.

The President of the National Union of Taraba State Students,  Hope Vyonku,  told PUNCH Metro that Victor ran into the hands of the “evil men” on her way to school on Sunday while returning from weekend at home.

“I was told that she was returning to the school in a tricycle that she boarded when the incident happened close to the bridge after the State Specialist Hospital, Jalingo.

“She was reportedly gang-raped and abandoned by the roadside,  before a passerby rushed her to the State Specialist Hospital where she died on Tuesday,” he said.

Vyonku called on the authorities of the school to put in a place adequate security measures to ensure the safety of students.
