A former governor of Kaduna State, Balarabe Musa, has reacted to the honour bestowed on MKO Abiola and others by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former governor said there is nothing wrong if Buhari honours the late politician, who is presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, to get re-elected in 2019.
Musa told Independent newspaper that even if Buhari had ulterior motive for honouring Abiola, he should be commended for doing the right thing and righting the wrongs of the past.
Buhari had last week announced June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day and also conferred the highest title in the land, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on Abiola.
Some Nigerians frowned on the gesture, describing it it as a ruse and an attempt to hoodwink the South West to vote for him in the 2019 election.
But Musa said, “For those saying the president honoured Abiola because he wants to secure votes in the South West in 2019, what is wrong in that?
“What is wrong in doing a good thing? That claim is not true. But even if it is true, what is wrong in doing the right thing? I don’t see anything wrong in that?”
