The police have arraigned a 35-year-old man, Onyemechi Nwogele, before a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly stealing $80,000.
Nwogele, a Lagos-based driver and native of Ebonyi State, was also accused of stealing property valued at N280,000 on August 7, 2017, on Omo Egbohulu Street Ikeja, Lagos.
It was learnt that the suspect was the driver of the victim.
Nwogele was arraigned on two counts bordering on conspiracy and stealing, which he pleaded not guilty to.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Imhonwa, the offences are punishable under sections 409 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
He said Nwogele and others now at large, gained access to the house through a fence and stole $80,000 from the victim.
Imohonwa added that other items, such as one iPad, a blackberry, a Microsoft Lumia and a Samsung Galaxy, were stolen from the victim.
The charges read in part “That you, Onyemechi Nwogele, and others now at large, on August 7, 2017, on Omo Egbohulu Street, Ikeja, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: stealing, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
“That you, Onyemechi Nwogele, and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, did steal the sum of $80,000, one iPad, a Blackberry, Microsoft Lumia and Samsung Galaxy, with the total value of N280,000, property of one Mr. Andy Wabali, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000, with two reputable sureties each in like sum and adjourned till November 2, 2017.
