As part of his bail conditions, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu yesterday said he has secured the presence of a Jewish leader to stand as suretie for him before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. Kanu is standing trial along side three others before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over alleged treason felony.
Justice Binta Nyako had on Tuesday admitted Kanu to bail in the sum of N100 million with three sureties in like sum. According to the judge, one of sureties must be a Jewish leader, since Kanu had earlier told the court that he practices Judaism as religion.
Speaking on the bail condition yesterday, a younger brother to Kanu, Emmanuel said that they were uncomfortable with the conditions of the bail especially the aspect that barred his brother from being in the company of more than 10 persons.
According to him, ” we are uncomfortable with the conditions, especially the part of not being in the company of more than 10 people. “We already have people coming in from Israel to stand as surety for him”, he added.
Emmanuel further stated that Kanu is just being persecuted for no just cause adding that the will appeal some aspects of the bail condition.
He added that they are also not comfortable with the aspect of protection of witnesses in the trial. Kanu has been in detention since October 14, 2015, when he was arrested by security operatives upon his arrival to Nigeria from the United Kingdom.
