Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has said that leadership crisis is not peculiar to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) but to all political parties in the country. He said specifically that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has more problems than the PDP.
He stated this in Abuja during a chat with the media on Tuesday.
Fayose said no political party should be viewed as the ‘Holy land’ made up of only ‘Holy’ people, because they have the ruling power now; stressing that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has more problems than opposition PDP in terms of what is being said about the PDP at the moment
.
The governor blamed lack of proper coordinating centres within the structures of political parties for the recurrent leadership problems in party politics in Nigeria.
He alleged that many politicians within the APC are feeling distraught and discontent but are keeping quiet at the moment because the party is in power; adding that if the party loses power or President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo leave the party today, the APC will be in disarray and a lot of leadership crisis will emanate.
He said: “There is no party in Nigeria today that does not have the same problem as the PDP. You saw how in 2015, when people left the PDP to contest for primary tickets of other parties even against those who had hitherto being in the parties.
“So, there’s no party that should be referred to as ‘Holy land’ made up of only ‘Holy’ people. The challenges in the country emanate because our leaders do not respect their party constitutions. If we all respect party constitution, we will not be in this trouble.
“Let me tell you APC has more problems than PDP in terms of what is being said about the PDP. They only have power and government right now.
“To me, when you don’t have a clearing house – a coordinating centre, you will have all the barrage of problems we are having in PDP.
“It is like APC, if you take President Muhammadu Buhari out, or you take power out of APC, or you take Osinbajo out of APC; the party will be in disarray.
“A lot of anomalies are bottled-up in so many politicians but they are quiet to defend themselves or to reject such things so they mum until a certain time. So these kind of problems are not peculiar to the PDP.”
