In the last one week i have met with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police thrice..It was at his instance..It was on the need to have a robust and professional working relationship with Nigerian Online Practitioners (not only bloggers ) in my capacity as the President of the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria. The discuss cummulated in an interactive session with a selected number of top Online practitioners in Lagos last week..
Between the two of us,I am not a lover of the Police just like so many Nigerians..It even got worse last year when the men of the Police at SUF Unit of the Police in Lagos played very suspicious and unprofessional role in my detention at Ikoyi Prison,Lagos..
Since then I have decided to keep my distance from the force..But for people like ACP Tunji Disu ,the RRS Commander in Lagos who happens to be my classmate at LASU,I have always kept a long distance from the Nigerian Police..I don't attend their Press Conferences but whatever materials they send to me I do use...
It was therefore a surprise when sometime last week I received a personal call from the Commissioner who asked me to visit him at my convenience ..I told him I ll see him in three days time since I was on my way out of Lagos.. On the appointed day,I was in his office ..
After waiting for sometime, I was ushered in..I was shocked to my marrow to meet a completely refined gentleman to the core.. Immediately he saw me,he bursted out laughing, CKN you don enter my trouble today (my heart sank,I said not again,wetin I do again)..but his next words were very reassuring ,he called in one of his senior aides,to take good care of me..
His exact words were "CKN, abeg let me attend to some of these visitors, I don't want to meet you in a hurry, I want to have a lengthy chat with you if you don't mind?'..I had no choice than to oblige him..When we eventually met,I was mesmerized by the speech,mannerism and professionalism with which he delivered his message..
The Ibadan born cop is a born orator..His diction was faultless, he spoke in low tones ,but you'll definitely notice the authority in them..I was shocked to see such a refined top policeman (a total contrast to what we see on the street)..
The Commissioner acknowledged the power of the Social media and he is seeking the assistance of the practitioners in helping the police do their job..He wants a cordial relationship between the online media and the Police in order to stem some of the inaccurate reports on the online media... It was one of the best moment of my practising career..
You could see in Mr Owoseni a passion to do his job..Owoseni without any doubt is one of the best officers in the force..At the rate he is going,the Oyo State born cop may end up being an IGP one day..After my meeting with him,I now truly believe that THE POLICE IS MY FRIEND.Sir i salute you,you are a real pride not only to the Police but Nigeria...
