In
continuation of the golden jubilee celebration of the Nigerian Institute of
Town Planners, the Oyo State chapter upped the ante on September 7, 2016, when
they hosted the crème la d crème of the society at the North Campus Assembly
Hall of the Polytechnic Ibadan.
The well
attended event which was chaired by the highly revered Ekerin Olubadan,
Chief Kola Daisi, was a veritable platform for the State Chapter of NITP to
roll out the carpet to fete and honour some of their own, blow a little bit of
their own trumpet and advocate for a smooth working relationship between
government at all levels and town planners for a better and well planned
society.
The
amiable and hardworking chairman of Oyo State of NITP, Tpl. Kola Lawal was full
of smiles as his chapter officially unveiled and launched a book he co-edited
with Tpl. Labi Agboola. Titled Physical Planning In Nigeria: The Oyo State
Experience; the book explores the business of town planning, its importance and
contribution to the society, as well as the events that led to the formation of
the body of town planners in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Still
euphoric with the successful commissioning of a commemorative 30 seater Golden
Jubilee Arcade/Students Sit-Out which was donated to the Polytechnic Ibadan by
his state Chapter the previous day and dedicated by the Ag. National President
of the body, Tpl. Lukas Achi, the chairman and his members also honoured some
of their founding members and top notch professionals.
The
awards recipients are eminent citizens like the executive governor of Oyo
State, Senator Abiola Ajumobi, the late founding father of NITP, Tpl. (Chief)
Solomon Tokun, the first general secretary of NITP and the only surviving
member of the nine founding fathers of the institute, Tpl. (Chief) Goke
Adediran (aka the last man standing), the late Tpl. (Prof) Gabriel Onibokun,
Tpl. (Chief) Dosu Babatunde, Tpl (Chief) Akanni Ojebode and the amiable and
fearless Tpl (Prof) Olayiwola Egunjobi JP.
In a collaborative effort that portends a better future for tomorrow’s town planners, the event witnessed a massive array of exhibition mounted by town planning students from various polytechnics in the South Western axis including the host polytechnic. Some of the models and sketches were simply spectacular and awe-inspiring in their detailed creativity. It was a day to remember, especially for the awardees and entire members of the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners
