The
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed yesterday warned
against using the name of President Muhammadu Buhari, those of his immediate
family members as well as senior government officials to solicit favour or
contracts from ministries and other government establishments.
Mohammed warned fraudsters to desist from the criminal act or face the wrath of the law.
A
statement from his special assistant on media, Segun Adeyemi, said government
was aware that some opportunists had been going around government organizations
with notes purportedly recommending them for contracts and other patronage,
using the name of the president, his family members and senior government
officials.
The minister said the president did not authorize any government official to write notes recommending anyone for contracts or any form of patronage, and warned those involved in such activities to stop immediately or face possible arrest and prosecution.
He also warned government officials who
may be working in collusion with con men to desist from the act.
