Barrister
Jimoh Ibrahim was today picked by the Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction of the Peoples
Democratic Party to fly the party’s flag at the forth coming governorship
election in Ondo State.
The event took place at the Premier Hotel, Ibadan on Sunday, August
28, 2016.
The
congress which lasted overnight was attended by 560 delegates instead of the
801 being expected.
The
Ali Modu Sherif’s faction sent in Ahmed Gulak and others to represent the party
as ‘National Exco’s representatives’.
Four
other prominent Ondo State born personalities joined Jimoh Ibrahim in the race.
These are Sola Ebiseni, Dauda Dada, Niran Sule and Mrs Abiye Ademoyegun.
Three
of these contestants stepped down for Ibrahim leaving only Sola Ebiseeni.
At
the end of the day, Jimoh got 502 votes to defeat Sola Ebiseni. And he has
since accepted defeat and has joined other.
In
his acceptance speech, Barrister Jimoh told party members “You do not need to
fear for any reason. I have been given a mandate. I am ready to defend my
candidature spiritually, legally, politically and economically.”
Jimoh
Ibrahim, in addition to being a lawyer is also a politician, businessman, and
philanthropist in Nigeria. He is the chairman and chief executive officer of
Global Fleet Group, a diversified conglomerate based in Nigeria, with business
interests and subsidiaries in neighboring West African countries.
