Gunmen yesterday shot and killed the Saf Ron Kulere and Chairman of Bokkos Traditional Council, Sir Lazarus Agai, in his village, Sha, Plateau State.
It was gathered that the paramount traditional ruler was on his way back from his farm in a neighbouring village when he was attacked.
Also killed alongside the Agai were his wife, his son, identified as Shagari, and his police orderly, Sunday Wuyah.
Plateau state governor, Barr. Simon Lalong, confirmed the killing of the traditional ruler yesterday, saying a preliminary security report before him had confirmed the attack.
A statement by the the director of press and public affairs in the office of the governor, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, indicated that “The incidence took place at about 3pm yesterday Monday while the chief was on transit from a neighbouring village.”
Nanle, in the statement, further disclosed that following the incident, the governor had summoned an emergency meeting of security agencies today, to come up with a strategy to prevent reprisals from aggrieved groups.
“Meanwhile, heavy security team has been deployed to the community so as to be able to react appropriately.
“Government wishes to condole the people and government of Bokkos local government. The Governor also appeals for calm to allow the security agencies carefully investigate the attack so as to round up the criminals immediately.
“Governor Lalong also appeals to youths and every other aggrieved citizens of the local government not to take laws into their hands as a result of the attack or engage in any other acts that will further endanger the peace of the locality and the entire state,” he added.
The public relations officer of the state police command, ASP Tyopev Terna, who also confirmed the incident, said no arrest had been made in connection with the killing.
