Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders
have killed at least 10 people and injured many in Logo local government area
of Benue state.
The attacks on Logo have become regular in recent times despite a peace meeting held last week between stakeholders of the affected Tiv speaking people and Fulani herders.
A resident of the area and former government official, Chief
Joseph Anawah said that yesterday’s attack on the community happened around
7:30 am while the farmers were heading to their various farms.
Anawah said that the persons killed hailed from Adayohov and Sontyo villages of Gaabe-Tiev in Logo LGA, and that more people were still missing.
But, the State Coordinator of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Garus Gololo, has denied any fresh clash between the farmers and herders.
“I have contacted my people there (Logo) and they said there was nothing like that,” Gololo said.
Conversely, the member representing Logo Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Kester Kyenge, said the casualty figures could be more because some bodies were still being recovered from the bush at the time of this report.
The state Police Command spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu said that four persons were attacked by suspected herders at Tse-Adayol in Mbagbe ward of Logo and that one was killed, one missing while the other two were injured.
