Supporters
of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday blocked the entrance to the Rivers
State High Court complex and the state House of Assembly complex in Port
Harcourt in protest against the alleged refusal of the House to swear in two
candidates elected on the platform of the party.
The
protesters specifically said that the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Iyayi
Lamikanra, and the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Dima
Dabotoru, were delaying the inauguration of the two candidates, who won the
election in their constituencies.
Mrs.
Victoria Nyeche of Port Harcourt Constituency I and Andrew Miller of
Opobo/Nkoro Constituency, had yet to be sworn in few months after receiving
Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
They
were alleged to have been barred from being sworn in as a result of court
orders.
Some
of the placard-carrying protesters on Tuesday were from the Niger Delta Civil
Society Coalition, the Save Rivers Movement and the Rivers Leadership
Advancement Foundation.
