An Elder statesman, Dr.
Faruk Abdullazeez has applauded the recent verdict of the Kogi State
Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which upheld the election of Alhaji
Yahaya Bello as the duly elected Governor of Kogi State, saying that the
governor has now been strengthened by the law to deliver good governance to the
people of Kogi State.
Faruk, a former Federal
Commissioner at the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC|)
and one of the founding fathers of Kogi State who spoke with newsmen in Abuja
said that the pronouncement of the Tribunal has laid to rest, controversies on
the legality of the election of the governor.
He said: “We are
particularly pleased with the pronouncement that Alhaji Yahaya Bello was
validly elected. This is a pronouncement of the Law. And that confirms that
there was no intention ever on the part of the party (APC) to do anything
outside the law”.
He said the emergence of
Alhaji Yahaya Bello from Kogi Central Senatorial District of the State was a
gift from God which has satisfied the collective desire of Kogi people for
power rotation amongst constituent zones in the State.
Dr. Abdullazeez appealed
to all the various groups in the State to cooperate with the governor as he
strives to achieve peaceful coexistence and deliver the dividends of democracy
to the people of Kogi State.
He commended the governor
for his sense of fairness and equity in the sharing of political appointments
in the State, noting that out of the initial 22 political appointments that the
governor made, 9 positions, including the Chief of Staff, went to Kogi East, 7
to Kogi West and only 6 positions to his Zone, Kogi Central.
Dr. Abdullazeez described
Kogi as a resource endowed State which if well exploited, would bring
