The governor of Abia State, Okezie
Ikpeazu, has sacked members of his media team, headed by the Chief Press
Secretary, Mr Godwin Adindu.
Others affected by the sack included the senior special assistant to the governor on media, Mr Ojo Maduekwe, special assistant on media, Mr Ugochukwu Emezue, aides in charge of public communication, electronic and print media.
The sacking of the workers was announced, yesterday, by the
chief of staff to the governor, Chief Chijioke Nwakodo.
While no reason was given for the workers, sources said it might not be unconnected with the “shoddy handling” of the visit of the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, to Abia State on Wednesday.
The chief press secretary has been directed to hand over government property in his possession to the permanent secretary, Government House, Umuahia.
Adindu, who assumed work in June 2015, was among the early appointees of the Ikpeazu-led administration.
During the Tambuwal’s visit which came to a climax with the commissioning of some road projects, the press secretary was said to be away in Lagos while events earmarked for the visit did not receive the media coverage they deserved.
This development, it was said, did not go down well with Ikpeazu.
