Our take on the removal of subsidy..We've had all sorts
of debates over the removal of petrol subsidy..
The case for and against is now the talk of town..Its
now a war between the wailers and hailers.. Someone asked us, CKN News, are you
guys for or against the removal of subsidy?..
Our simple answer to her was that we have nothing
against the removal but will that solve our problems?..All over the world
including U K and the United States of America, their government subsidise a lot
of things..Just tell us one single service or product Nigeria is subsidising..
Electricity tariffs which ought to be subsidised has
been increased by this government by over 100% since it took over in less than
one year..
Petroleum which ought to be subsidized has been
increased by about 80% by this same government. The new price hike on petroleum
will have a multiplier effect..
The cost of transport will rise..It will affect the
prices of food like rice, garri, Yam, beans, onions, tomatoes, pepper ,house
rents and even school fees..
Meanwhile, there is no corresponding increase in
salaries..Those in power said we should try to swallow the bitter pills now and
enjoy later..
Are they also swallowing same?..How many of them buy
fuel or pay house rents..Has the President reduced the number planes in his
fleet..Has the Governors cut down on their convoys..Have the members of the
National Assembly taken a salary cut?..
Whatever bitter or sweet pills they are talking about
is targeted only at the poor and some people are clapping in total
approval..The market woman will not ask for your APC card when you go to buy
food stuffs..
We re in this together..This government should find a
way of helping the masses rather than inflicting more pains and adding more
salt to our already bruised wounds.
Even if the subsidies must be removed, the government
should as a matter of urgency put palliative measures cushion the effect..This
government rose to power with the promise of being a people oriented
government..Its actions so far have not proven that..
President Buhari should be told in clear terms that the
burden is getting too heavy for Nigerians to bear.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA..
