Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said yesterday
in Kano that the present administration spent its first year in office planning
how to make Nigeria a better country.
Mohammed stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, stressing that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration spent its first year in office blocking the leakages to stop stealing of public funds.
“Those who served under the past
government stole so much money. They were richer than government. We came into
government when the country was infected with all sorts of diseases,” he said.
“Nigerian’s economy was infected with Ebola, HIV/AIDS and all other sorts of diseases by some corrupt people. But the federal government is working very hard to fix the country and gradually things have started taking shape,” the minister stressed.
Mohammed, who said he was in Kano for the federal government’s town hall meeting which was launched in Lagos State, added that the idea of such meetings was to inform Nigerians on the new administration.
Governor Ganduje described the meeting as timely, saying: “Without adequate communication, many activities of government would perish. Rumour mongers would achieve their aims, while suspicion and ignorance will continue to affect governance negatively.”
He pointed out that the meeting was a two-way traffic where government would tell people its policies and plans, while the people in return would tell government their aspirations and problems.
