The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on Friday, assured that elections into the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, will hold today (Saturday) as scheduled.
Prof Yakubu who gave the assurance in Abuja, on Friday evening after inspecting logistics arrangements on ground for the polls, called on the registered voters to come out en mass for the exercise.
The INEC boss in company of his National Commissioners and the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Charge of the FCT, Prof Jacob Jatau, stated that he was impressed with the situations on ground for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
He said that adequate security arrangements have been made for all the officials that would conduct the polls before, during and after the polls based on the past experiences in Kogi, Bayelsa and Rivers states.
According to Yakubu: "All is now set for the FCT Councils polls, there is no cause for alarm.
Fuel scarcity or not, we are going ahead with the conduct of the polls, we are in partnership with the drivers' union and they are on ground moving the materials to different locations."
Meanwhile a restriction has been
imposed on vehicular movements into or out of the territory today till after
the election.
