LASG OPENS UP ON QUEENS COLLEGE,EVA ADELAJA SECONDARY SCHOOL ISSUES


The Lagos State Government has called on residents of the state to always come forward and report any issue they might have with any government institution to the relevant agency so that   appropriate action can be taken.

Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development Pharmacist Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf made the call today during a press briefing held against the backdrop of the alleged case of sexual assault in Queens College,Lagos which went viral on social media.

Acknowledging the place of social media, she noted that “the world is now a global village, no one can hide after perpetrating evil. But it is pertinent for the person or persons putting these issues on Social Media to come forward, report appropriately so that the needful can be done.”

Akinbile-Yussuf said the state has called for the temporary removal of those concerned in the issue pending the outcome of investigations having observed the uncooperative attitude of the school authority. “We therefore implore the Federal Ministry of Education to direct the officials of the school to cooperate with us in the best interest of the children “adding that the state government will always act within the ambit of the law In accordance with the Child Rights Act.

The Honourable Commissioner used the opportunity to assure members of the public that necessary protective Services required if such a case should arise are in place and readily accessible with utmost confidentiality and respect for dignity as key words in the discharge of duty by social workers while urging them to use the line 08096777389 for prompt attention of a social worker.

Reacting to the Eva Adelaja Girls Secondary School Bariga,case,  where a student was physically abused by school authorities because of another student ,Akinbile-Yussuf reiterated that government will not condone acts of irresponsibility from people who are expected to ensure that children in their care are safe.

She however decried the misleading reportage which said a panel was set up by the ministry stating that the ministry is investigating the matter
