Ekiti State House of Assembly yesterday declared missing four of its members.
This followed the alleged invasion of the assembly complex by operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday evening.
Addressing journalists on Saturday, the Speaker of the assembly, Hon Kola Oluwawole said over ten armed men of DSS stormed the assembly while various committees meeting were on and shot sporadically in the air.
Hon Oluwawole who alleged that it was part of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government plot to destabilise the state government, said the incident caused panic among members and staff of the assembly, who had to scamper for safety.
He said, “At the end of the commotion created by this barbaric act, we discovered that four of our members could not be found.
It was only this morning that we were able to establish that Hon Afolabi Akanni, representing Efon Constituency was abducted and taken to Abuja. Whereabouts of three other members is still unknown as we speak, and reasons for the invasion and abduction of our members are not known”.
The Speaker who was flanked by twelve other lawmakers and the Clerk of the House, disclosed that the assembly approached the State Command of DSS which confirmed that the operatives were from Abuja.
While maintaining that the intimidation was coming because of the critical stance of Governor Ayodele Fayose government on the President Mohammadu Buhari’s government, said “We are aware that 18 of our members have been pencilled down for harassment and the game plan is to harass them to submission, with a view to coercing them into signing an already prepared notice of impeachment of the governor and his deputy.
