The Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha Okorocha has announced
the recall of over 3,000 workers he suspended from the state civil
service for alleged indolent attitudes and lack of productivity.
In a resolution meeting in Owerri, the state capital, Wednesday, between the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, government officials and bishops, the government announced the immediate reversal of the suspensions. NLC was led to the meeting by it state chairman, Comrade Austin Chilakpu, while Hon Ikenna Eme, one of the governor's aides led government to the meeting.
The warring parties agreed that recalling the embattled workers was one of the ways of achieving peace, a demand the government immediately obeyed.
The organized Labour had earlier today shut down Owerri in protest of some of the government's anti labor policies.
