Diezani |
The House
of Representatives committee investigating alleged under-hand dealing in oil
swap deal with some companies has formally invited former petroleum minister
Diezani Alison-Madueke to appear before it on Wednesday next week.
The committee chaired by Rep Zakari Mohammed (APC, Kwara) said in its letter dated February 22 that Diezani is to provide full brief on all swap arrangements, a proof of presidential/Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval, NNPC board resolution on the contract, evidence of the approval limit of the board and that of the minister of petroleum and of the Group Managing Director (GMD).
Three
former GMDs of the NNPC Austen Oniwon, Andrew Yakubu and Joseph Dawah had last
week told the committee that the contract was approved by Diezani when she was
minister.
The committee, in the letter it forwarded through the current NNPC GMD and minister of state for petroleum Ibe Kachukwu, said Diezani should appear on March 2 with all relevant documents that will assist the committee.
The committee had uncovered several breaches including continuation of the contract after it expired during which the three companies involved, ONTARIO, AITEO and Televeras, lifted crude worth $24 billion during the period that the contract was not renewed.
Members of the committee said since there was no agreement for the contract within the first period before its expiration, the whole deal was null and void. It was also revealed that the contract was awarded without advertisement in contravention of the Public Procurement Act.
