The new Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications
Commission,Prof Umar Garba Danbatta says Broadband penetration will remain the
main thrust of his tenure.
Prof Danbatta made the assertion in Lagos yesterday during a world press
conference.
Flanked by his Directors,the erudite scholar used the occasion to reel
out his 8 point agenda:
These are.
1.Facilitate Broadband Penetration
2.Improve Quality of Service
3.Optimize Usage of Benefits of Spectrum
4.Promote ICT Innovation and Investment Opportunities
5.Facilitate Strategic Collaboration and Partnership
6.Protect and Empower Consumers
7.Promote Fair Competition and Inclusive Growth.
8.Ensure Regulatory Excellence and Operational Efficiency
He also used the occasion to speak on several issues affecting the
industry.On the ongoing faceoff between MTN and NCC,the EVC admitted that MTN
has opted for an out of court settlement and that the agency and it’s lawyers
are now in discussion with the company.

Prof Danbatta said he will sustain a broad based administration geared towards
giving Nigerians a regulatory body they will be proud of.

He promises to pursue its core mandates and look at areas that need
immediate attention.
He also spoke on Spectrum licenses and to pursue the issue of right of
way for telecom operators.
