The leader of Shi’ite sect members in Kano state Muhammad Turi and the sect’s national spokesman Ibrahim Usman have been confirmed killed.
They were shot dead in Zaria town in the ongoing clash between military and members of the sect.
Spokesperson of the sect in Kano, Ahmad Saqafa, confirmed the death of the two shi'ite members
Saqafah said: “The two important personalities were among the scores of brothers who were killed as martyrs in Zaria.”
Meanwhile residents of Zaria, especially those residing in Tudun Wada, Gyellesu, Sabon Gari and Tudun Jukun, could not sleep yesterday, as heavy sound of gunshots and explosions pervaded the air throughout the night up to this morning.
It was gathered that the development was a spill over from the clash that took place between the Army and Shi’ite over access to the PZ-Samaru Road where many lives were feared lost.
It was also gathered that soldiers advanced into Gyellesu, where Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky’s house is located, yesterday night, perhaps to take control of the area.
It was not independently ascertain the true situation, as the soldiers had restricted movement along the PZ-Samaru Road, where the Shi’ite centre, Hussainiyya, is located.
Same thing applied to Gyellesu quarters where Sheikh Zakzaky’s house is.
