OGUN CJ SWEARS IN 46 CUSTOMARY JUDGES, WARNS ON FAVOURITISM.

In its resolve to improve on the dispensation of justice at the grassroots, Ogun State Judiciary has sworn-in 46 Customary Court Judges with a charge to exhibit a high sense of responsibility without fair or favour in the discharge of their judicial duties.
The State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Olatokunbo Olopade said this at the swearing-in ceremony of the Customary Court Judges at the High Court premises, Isabo, Abeokuta.
Justice Olopade noted that appointment of the Judicial Officers into the State Judiciary was expected to fortify and strengthen the dispensation of Justice in the State, particularly at the grassroot, adding that they were expected to be through, painstaking and courageous in handling matters before them.
“As a Customary Court Judge, you are to be focused, dedicated, vibrant, thorough and painstaking in the discharge of your Judicial duties”, she stated.
The Chief Judge warned the new Customary Court Judges to shun vices detrimental to their calling as the State would not condone any form of corruption and corrupt practices from officers, noting that the Judicial Service Commission would continue to sanction erring staff Court Judges appropriately.
“I would like you to know that the Ogun State Judiciary has zero tolerance for corruption and corrupt Officers, including Customary Court Judges. As a matter of fact, the State Judicial Service Commission has been sanctioning erring staff and Customary Court Judges from time to time. You are therefore warned to be above board at all times and must discharge your duties without fair or favour, affection or ill-will “, she stated.
The Secretary, Ogun State Judicial Commission, Mr. Kolawole Peters said the swearing-in ceremony of the new Customary Court Judges was a constitutional requirement that allows anyone in the State to be a member, noting that over 100 applications were received out of which 70 were shortlisted and 46 were selected after written examination.
One of the newly appointed Customary Court Judges, Chief Emmanuel Sokunle thanked the State Government for the opportunity to serve the Judiciary, pledging that they would put in their best in order to make the dispensation of Justice more effective and efficient in the State.
