This was made known on Monday by Mr Bisi Kazeem, head, Media Relations and Strategy in the commission,in a statement made available to the Newsmen, Abuja.
According to Kazeem, the commission recorded 113 Road Traffic Crashes(RTC) within one week of patrol across the country.
``113 RTC was recorded on the roads between Dec.19 and Dec.26, compared with 169 RTC recorded same time last year, which shows reduction by 33 per cent.
``Similarly, 86 lives were lost as at Sat. compare with 109, lost within same period last year, which shows improvement of 21 per cent in FRSC's efforts to save lives on the roads.
``422 people were injured within the period this year which amounts to 30 per cent improvement in operation when compared with 606 people that were injured last year.
``Also, 934 people were involved in crashes within the period under review, compared with 1,284 involved last year within same period, while 426 people were rescued this year unlike 570 last year," he said.
Kazeem said 25 per cent improvement was recorded in the area of live savings on the roads.
On prosecution of offenders Kazeem said,FRSC had so far arraigned 878 traffic violators and convicted 783, while the rest were discharged.
``Reports from patrols on critical and minor corridors nationwide indicate that 8,825 offenders have been arrested since the beginning of end of the year patrol for 9,792 offences.
``The commission has also arraigned 878 traffic offenders in various mobile courts across the nation while 783 of them were convicted and 95 of those arrested were discharged," he said.
The statement therefore urged road users to always obey traffic rules and regulations, while they should also cooperate with traffic managers on the road, for free flow movement.
NAN recalls that Mr Boboye Oyeyemi,Corps Marshal of the commission flagged off ``Operation Zero tolerance" with the theme: `Drive safely into 2016', in Onitsha, on December 18.
NAN also recalls that Oyeyemi deployed 36,000 personnel and equipment for the exercise, and confirmed that 200 mobile courts had been set up nationwide to arraign traffic offenders during the period.
The FRSC boss also led aerial surveillance on some major corridors across the country on Thursday,saying the commission is determined to ensure that travellers do not get stocked in traffic.
