Nigeria Bloggers Union, an umbrella body created to help build and coordinate the activities of bloggers across the nation has emerged.
According to the promoters of the association, the events of the past months have shown clearly, that there is the need to have an association to coordinate the practise of blogging and to fully re-positioning blogging as a serious minded profession in Nigeria for effective and certified dissemination of information.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the association, the interim national president of the association, Mr Chris Kehinde Nwandu (CKN) emphasized the need to build an association readily poised for the emerging world in the area of information dissimilation and management.
In his words "The Nigeria Bloggers Union will not only raise the standard of blogging in Nigeria but it will also work with relevant individuals and corporate organizations towards raising the standard of the profession in the country through consistent training and advocacy”.
The association resolved that membership is opened to all Nigerian bloggers living within and outside the shores of Nigeria who have been blogging consistently for atleast one full calendar year.
The creation of the Nigeria Bloggers Union according to him is long overdue due to the fact that bloggers in Nigeria, currently constitute over 70% of sources of information on the super highway (internet) and there is the need for us to regulate and forge a common front as professionals.
To show the associations level of seriously, a code of ethics committee will be put in place within the next few days to deal with all issues relating to ethical behaviours.
The committee will be saddled with the responsibility of dealing with all forms of complaints raised (or that will arise) from aggrieved individuals and corporate institutions against any member as it relates to ethical behaviour.
He called for the cooperation and understanding of all relevant agencies as we move towards sanitising and regulating the practise of blogging in Nigeria
