President Mohammed Buhari has approved the removal of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, (HoS), Mr. Danladi Kifasi, who has been ordered to proceed on terminal leave to pave the way for geopolitical balancing in federal appointments.
The change, which was not made official by the presidency on Tuesday, was aimed at ensuring that the federal character principle as enshrined in the constitution is complied with.
It was learnt that Buhari might be looking at the southern part of the country to produce a possible replacement for Kifasi.
According to a statement by PR Nigeria, a media advisory for federal government agencies, the government may soon announce a new HoS.
When contacted, the Deputy Director of Communications, Office of the HoS, Mohammed Manga, refused to comment on the matter.
Kifasi who hails from Taraba State is from the same North-east zone with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal who is from Adamawa State. Kifasi was due to retire in January 2016.
PRNigeria stated that the current HoS who had served as Permanent Secretary in several ministries including the Ministries of Finance and Petroleum Resources had prepared for a smooth handover in the event of the announcement of new HoS who may likely from the southern part of the country.
