Preparations are in top gear to receive the newly appointed Ooni of Ife Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi at the palace today (Wednesday) as the high chiefs of Ile-Ife barred display of wares and other forms of trading in the town to accord Ogunwusi a rousing welcome.
The new monarch was expected to enter Ife yesterday from Lagos but sources said he had a stopover in Ibadan, Oyo state because necessary traditional rites required before he could enter the town could not be completed in Ife on yesterday.
The source said “our Kaabiesi (monarch) could not enter Ife yesterday due to the non-completion of necessary rituals. He would enter Ife today to begin the coronation rites and other necessary activities.”
The Lowa of Ife, High Chief Olasoji Ijaodola said that Ogunwusi would arrive in Ife today and advised Ife indigenes and residents to come out to welcome the new monarch.
It was learnt that markets would not open today while there would also be a restriction of vehicular movement in the major streets leading to the palace including the popular Mayfair Roundabout, Lagere Road, Iremo road, Moore road and Enuwa area.
