The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IEDC) have commenced massive distribution of prepaid meters to its customers .CKN News investigation revealed that the company has in the past two weeks have installed the prepaid meters in all residents of Seriki Aro Street, Afariogun Street, Shanu Street etc all in Ikeja off Obafemi Awolowo Way.Our Check revealed that the meters which were distributed and connected at no cost also came with 40 units credits.The residents who spoke with CKN News expressed their joy and appreciation to the management of the company for the kind gesture. According to most of them,for years the former NEPA and PHCN were in the habit of giving them estimated bills which was not commiserate with their level of consumption..The bills got crazy in the past few months with some people paying as high as N24,000 per month for a two bedroom flat apartment..With the new prepaid meters,they believe ,they will now pay for what they consume.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has denied media report that it will increase electricity tarrifs by 40% come November 1st 2015.This was disclosed to CKN News by the Chairman of the Agency,Dr Sam Amadi in a telephone interview yesterday. According to him,the rumour is just speculative. He said,"our Agency has not taken any decision on the percentage of decrease or increase of the tariffs.We are still meeting on it and once a decision is taken ,we will surely inform Nigerians"
