The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has picked the daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, Sa’adatu, as his fourth wife.
The wedding (fatiha) was conducted at the weekend at the Lamido’s palace in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, with N100,000 dowry, amid witnesses and guests.
Sa’adatu is believed to be about 18 years old.
During the wedding, Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State stood as witness for Sanusi while Governor Muhammadu Bindow of Adamawa State was the witness for Sa’adatu.
Insiders at the palace said the wedding was a low-key event as it was gathered that Sanusi sent out invitations to few dignitaries across the country.
They alleged that the Kano State government officials sneaked into Yola for the wedding to avoid the presence of journalists and the public.
Islamic scholars said the emir decision to marry a new wife is in line with Islamic injunction which prescribes a maximum of four wives.
