According to the author, the book which is titled: “The Potency of Public Enlightenment on Road Crash Reduction in Nigeria”, seeks to identify the relevance and dynamics of public enlightenment as effective tool for road traffic crash reduction in the country.
Ohaeri Osondu who is also the Staff Officer, Media Relations in the Corps Public Education Office of the Federal Road Safety Corps, said the book is a deliberate attempt to address the challenges to effective communication between the FRSC and its target audience (the motoring public), in the collective efforts to reverse the trend of road crashes across the country.
Interestingly, the book hinges on the specifics of communication theories as additional boost for the resolve by the FRSC to scale up its public advocacy drives as the nation’s lead agency on road safety management and traffic administration. The book also focuses on the need for seamless flow of information between the sender, channel and receiver of message, to achieve set goals. It also strives to X-ray the psychology of communication with emphasis on communication theories as apparent missing link in our efforts to achieve attitudinal change among motorists.
Among dignitaries expected at the event include the FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi as Chief Host, Abuja Diocesean Lay President of Methodist Church Nigeria, Sir. David Fadairo and the President, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Rotimi Oladele as Special Guest. Heads of Public Relations/Affairs Departments from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as also expected to be in attendance in addition to stakeholders in the transport sector.
