PDP PRODUCES ENOUGH EVIDENCE LINKING DSS DG TO APC AS APC DEFENDS POSITION

The position by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) canvassed at a Press Conference addressed by its Acting National Chairman, Chief Secondus Uche that the Director General of the State Security Service, Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura,mni , should be removed from office because he is a member of the All Progressives Party (APC) is hogwash and balderdash.
The Director General of the SSS, Lawal Musa Daura is not a political jobber and was not the Director of Intelligence of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council Committee on Intelligence as suggested by PDP.
On the contrary there was nothing like APC Presidential Campaign Council on Intelligence. There was an APC Presidential Campaign Council Directorate on Security and Intelligence and it’s Director was General Bello Dambazzau.
In any case, the fact that Lawal Musa Daura was a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council does not make him ineligible for appointment as the Director General of the SSS.
The National Security Agencies Act that establishes the Directorate of State Security does not stipulate that the Director General must not belong to any political party. The National Security Agencies Act provides that the National Security Agencies are Defence Intelligence Agency National Intelligence Agency and the State Security Service.
The National Security Agencies Act does not provide the qualification of principal officers of these National Security Agencies by the President. Section 3 subsection 1 of the National Security Agencies Act provides that there shall be appointed for each of the agencies, a principal officer, who shall be known by such designation as the President may determine.
So it follows the President has unfettered discretion to appoint anybody he considers fit and proper as Director General of SSS. It is a settled fact that not all members of the APC Presidential Campaign Committee and Directorate were card carrying members of the APC.
Lawal Musa Daura is more than qualified to be Director General of the SSS. He is an alumnus of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaira more than three decades ago.
He joined the defunct Nigerian Security Organization (now Directorate of State Security) in the early 1980s and through dint of hard work and professionalism rose to the position of Director before he bowed out in 2010 when his junior was appointed Director General by former President Jonathan.
He has what it takes to re-position the SSS after it politicisation by the former PDP federal government. Even in the United States of America we have seen numerous times the appointment of members of either the National Democratic Party or Republican Party as Directors of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (which is the equivalent of the SSS).
Lawal Musa Daura apart from his dazzling professional credentials and good standing is a nationalist to the core who shares the passion, vision and dream of President Muhammadu Buhari to change Nigeria from a prebendal, poverty ravaged and corruption infested country to one of prosperity and social justice.
