FOUR STOREY BUILDING COLLAPSE IN LAGOS

Seven construction workers at a four storey building in Lagos escaped death by whiskers after the building collapsed on Thursday.
The workers were said to have stepped out of the premises for lunch at about 2:30pm when the yet – to- be completed structure partially caved in.
It was gathered that the property located at 38, Commercial Avenue, Sabo, Yaba, affected a church adjacent to it and another residential building.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s (LASEMA) boss, Micheal Akinlade, all seven workers on the cite have been seen and were unhurt.
“No one was trapped in the building. From the information we gathered, the seven workers who were at the site stepped out before the building collapsed.
“We have done head count and have seen all seven of them. None of them is hurt. The building was still under construction and part of it fell on a church and the other part affected a residential building.
“All the relevant agencies are on ground and we have started demolition for safety reasons. We cannot know the cause of the collapse now, the agency in charge would investigate and take necessary actions,” said Akinlade.
He stated that no one was trapped, adding that demolition of the remaining part of the building has commenced.
