NEWS AGENCY OF NIGERIA FEMALE REPORTER KIDNAPPED IN OWERRI

The Chief Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Imo State Miss Chidi Opara has been kidnapped by unknown persons.

It was gathered the female journalist, who is also an executive member of the Correspondent Chapel, met her fate at about 8p.m. Wednesday in front of her residence at Urrata near Owerri, the state capital.

It is also gathered that the abductors of the NAN Correspondent had made the first demand for a ransom of N7 million, even as their demand had come down to N1 million.

But the chairman, of correspondent chapel, Athan Agbakuru and other members of the chapel are upset by the kidnap.

Meanwhile, Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has expressed shock on receiving the news of the kidnap of the lady and wondered why a journalist who is not a money bag could be kidnapped for ransom.

In a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, “the governor said his administration would work closely with the police and other security agencies in the state to ensure that the NAN correspondent is recovered from her abductors alive and healthy.”

The governor also called on the those holding the lady to release immediately or face the consequences.
