The Senator elect for Lagos West Senatorial District, Hon. Solomon Adeola has again expressed sadness and commiseration to his constituents on yet another petrol tanker accident at Idimu in his Alimosho Federal constituency where about 40 houses were burnt and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
This is the second accident in less than a week following the petrol tanker accident at Iyana-Ipaja Bridge axis of his senatorial district where properties and residential buildings worth millions of naira were lost to the ensuing inferno.
The Senator Elect who is the outgoing representative of Alimosho Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives said the recurrence of these accidents requires the government at all levels to take a holistic look at the mode of transportation of highly inflammable material through densely populated areas as well as compensatory system through insurance when such accidents occurred.
Senator Elect Adeola said these accidents are unfortunate at this trying period of the nation with serious hardship being experienced by the people on all fronts adding that it is his hope that the relevance agencies of government at state and Federal level should do all in its power to ameliorate the huge losses suffered by the people as a result of this accident.
Hon. Adeola further call on relevant regulatory agencies to come up with policies on the control and maintenance of articulated vehicles carrying inflammable materials like petrol as most of the accidents relating to such vehicles could be traced to lack of maintenance as well as their hours of operation in densely populated areas like Alimosho.
The Senator elect called on men of The Nigerian Police and other security agencies on our roads to exercise utmost restraints in their dealings with drivers of these articulated vehicles as the accident was reported to be related to altercations between the Police and the driver of the ill-fated truck.
