The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, Saturday advised the Kaduna State Governor-elect, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, to provide responsive and selfless leadership to the people.
Sanusi also urged the governor-elect not to lose his connection with the people that elected him, according to a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report.
A statement by El-Rufai’s media aide, Samuel Aruwan, said the emir gave the advice when he visited the governor-elect in Kaduna.
Sanusi congratulated El-Rufai over his election and said that the people of the state have elected a competent and capable governor who will provide sound leadership. The emir expressed confidence in El-Rufai’s ability to provide strong leadership, ensure good governance and unite the diverse peoples of the state.
He expressed delight that Nigerians with ability and experience were “stepping forward to offer themselves for leadership in the country.’’
The monarch urged the people of the state, irrespective of religious, ethnic or political inclination, to pray and support the incoming administration to succeed.
In his response, the governor-elect, appreciated the emir for the visit and commended him for ``helping to provide a positive re-definition of traditional leadership.’’ He pledged that he would not fail the people of the state. “I am grateful and humbled by your visit and prayers. I promise the people of Kaduna that I will not disappoint them. I will govern with fear of Almighty God and will unite our diverse people towards attaining real development.
