Group Says Obiano Undermining PDP’s Partnership With APGA

A group, Anambra PDP mandate Group has expressed concern over the attitude of the Anambra State governor, Willy Obiano to the partnership between the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The group in a statement by Chief Emeka Okechukwu and Mazi Benedict Nnamdi, President General and Secretary General respectively, says it appears the governor is doing all in his power to undermine and truncate that partnership between the two parties.
“Shockingly, Governor has embarked on a systematic campaign of intimidation, coercion, terror and oppression against PDP members and the party’s supporters in the state.
This is, notwithstanding the fact that, President Jonathan, is also the APGA candidate for the forthcoming presidential elections,” the stated.
It insists that this attitude threatens the objective and political calculations that necessitated having a single presidential candidate for both parties in next week’s general elections.
The group alleged that Obiano now arrogates to himself powers to dictate to the people of Anambra, especially those employed by the state government where their political allegiance should lie.
“Yet whereas, his party, APGA fully supports the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming elections, Governor Obiano’s actions and behavior are in actual fact, working against the position of his party.
“One can understand the fear of Governor Obiano who, since the defection of Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to the APC, has become the only APGA governor in the South East and the entire country. But Obiano seems to be taking things too far.
The group said communities and their leaders are not spared as the governor it says has been using the award of contracts for the construction of community roads and highways to ensure community elders and their subjects to support APGA candidates and appealed to the Governor to respect the wishes of his party, APGA which has adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the March 28,2015 election.
“We also urge him to allow the good people of Anambra state, especially the civil servants and teachers to make their own choices of who to vote for, in all elections without fear of intimidation and coercion from the Anambra state government,” the group stated.
