There was pandemonium in Iyin-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, on Friday night, as a 25-year-old man, whose name was given as Wale Ede, severed the head of 50-year-old father of seven, Mr Joshua Olaseinde Fagbola, following a misunderstanding.
Sources said that both men were involved in an argument, which allegedly started during the wake-keep of a deceased in the community, and which was said to have dragged while the ceremony lasted.
It was gathered that the deceased and his assailant had argued over a dispute on concrete blocks while at the funeral, and had allegedly continued their quarrel until the incident occurred at about 8.00 p.m.
According to the sources, Ede had attacked Fagbola when the deceased, who worked as a patrol assistant with the state Directorate of Road Traffic Service (VIO), was about to leave for home on his motorcycle.
It was alleged that Ede had suddenly brought out a machete from an umbrella he was holding and fiercely cut Fagbola, “first from his neck and then his face and other parts of his body.”
The witnesses claimed that “the victim was first drenched in his own blood before he died in the arms of his wife in a hospital in the area.”
It was alleged that the deceased had, the day before, seized the suspect’s cell phone for “failing to provide the blocks he had paid him for.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Albert Adeyemi, while confirming the incident, said “Wale Ede is currently being held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Ado Ekiti.”
Adeyemi said it was reported that Wale Ede allegedly beheaded Mr Olaseinde Fagbola on March 20
