After more than eight hours on
Wednesday, the past and new leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)
resolved the crisis that almost tear the congress apart, after its 11th
Delegates’ Conference and election were disrupted.
The resolution was made by the
first president of the congress, Comrade Hassan Sumonu; the Edo State governor,
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Comrade Abduwaheed Omar, the outgoing president.
To this end, the emergency
National Executive Council (NEC) meeting has fixed March 12 to hold a new
election that would usher in new leadership of the conference.
The meeting, which started at
about 11.00 a.m. on Wednesday, came to and end around 7.45 p.m., but not after
it was adjourned for about three hours.
The NLC apologised to Nigerians
for the fracas which disrupted and caused inconclusive elections at the end of
the 11th delegate conference last week.
President of the congress, Omar,
while commending the past leaders, said they had waded into the crisis rocking
the union and their intervention culminated in the fixing of the botched
election to March 12.
