President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday sent a list of eight nominees to
the senate for screening as ministers.
The names of the nominees, which were contained in a letter by the
President and addressed to the Senate President, David Mark, are Senator
Musiliu Obanikoro from Lagos State; Senator Patricia Akwashiki, Nasarawa; Mrs.
Hauwa’u Lawan, Jigawa; and Prof. Nicholas Akise Ada, Benue.
The rest are Col. Augustine Akobundu (retd.), Abia; Mr. Fidelis Nwankwo,
Ebonyi; Mr. Kenneth Kobani, Rivers; and Senator Joel Ikenya, Taraba.
Jonathan, in his letter dated February 16, 2015, noted that the request
for senate screening was in accordance with Section 147 (2) of the 1999
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Briefing journalists after plenary, the Chairman, Senate Committee on
Information, Media and Public Affairs, Eyinnaya Abaribe, said the ministerial
nominees would start appearing before the senate as from Wednesday next week.
