The House of Representatives, on
Tuesday, commended President Goodluck Jonathan and the military for recapturing
some towns that had fallen under the control of the Boko Haram sect in some
parts of the North.
The House resolution was sequel
to a motion of urgent national importance moved by Honourable Muhammad Monguno,
who informed the House that “almost all the local government taken by Boko
Haram have now been liberated, so the Armed Forces require some encouragement
from us in the parliament.”
He added that before now, the
Boko Haram sect had nearly overtaken Borno State, stressing that “today, the
tide is turning against the insurgents as a result of the gallantry of the
soldiers.”
Contributing to the motion,
Deputy House Leader, Honourable Leo Ogor, noted that the new development “is a
sign that the military is working” adding that “it is, therefore, important to
appreciate what they are doing. We also need to commend other nations —Chad,
Cameroon and Niger for assisting us in fighting this battle.
Speaking further, he said: “We
need, also, to commend the Commander-in-Chief for his bold steps in assuring
that there will be security in the beleaguered area within six weeks.”
When the motion was put to vote
by the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Emeka Ihedioha, it was unanimously supported
by members.
