The Department of State Services
(DSS), on Monday, cautioned Nigerians to stop relocating to their states of
origin, in anticipation of violence during the forthcoming general election in
the country.
This was contained in a statement
made available to newsmen in Abuja, on Monday night by the spokesman of the
service, Marilyn Ogar.
While reassuring the public of
their safety wherever they reside, as adequate security has been put in place
before, during and after the elections, the service warned those “who spread
falsehood or rumours of violence to desist from such acts,” while warning those
planning to foment trouble during the period to stop it or face the wrath of
the law.
“It has come to the knowledge of
security agencies that people are relocating to their states of origin in
anticipation of violence during the forthcoming general election in the
country.
“We wish to reassure the public
of their safety wherever they reside, as adequate security is assured for all
before, during and after the elections.
“We want to also seize this
opportunity to caution those who spread falsehood or rumours of violence to
desist from such acts,” the statement read.
